Deus Mugabe

Deus Mugabe is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and the sole author of Mugabe on Insolvency Law in Uganda (MTD Books Limited, 2022) — the first major textbook on the subject since the Insolvency Act, 2011.

He is a partner and head of the tax practice at H&G Advocates, Kampala, a firm with more than a century of commercial work. His practice takes in international tax, transfer pricing, corporate and commercial work, insolvency, and some of the country’s larger mergers.

He holds an LLM in Tax Law with distinction from Queen Mary University of London, a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and a Diploma in Taxation and Revenue Administration from the East African School of Taxation. He has lectured income tax at EAST and visited Makerere’s School of Law. He was editor-in-chief of the Makerere International Law Journal (2017).

He is often asked to speak to the Uganda Law Society at its insolvency and tax symposia. The treatise is the public record of that practice.
